New Members

New members of all abilities are welcomed at Maidenhead Rowing Club, from the experienced athlete to the complete beginner, as well as those who just wish to enjoy the vibrant social scene. The active rowing and sculling membership ranges in age from about 12 to over 70, with equal numbers of men and women. The only restriction for new active members is that you must be able to swim 100 metres in light clothing.

The club rows all year round (river conditions permitting) with regular land training sessions as well as training on the water. There are a range of different squads to choose from to suit any ambition, for those who want to row for recreational pleasure, to those who want to compete for medals at Henley Royal Regatta and the National Championships.

For further information on the squads, look here.

For those who have never rowed before, our Learn2Row course is run regularly throughout the year.

Juniors:

Maidenhead Rowing Club is also part of  'Project Oarsome', a national scheme to encourage rowing clubs to work with local schools to promote the sport of rowing. There is currently a large and thriving junior squad enjoying lots of success and having a lot of fun! Junior places are very restricted. For the latest information send an email to: junior-membership @ maidenheadrc.org.uk.

Membership Categories

There are 5 categories to choose from. Starting with the most basic, they are:

Associate Membership
This is a social membership which allows you to take advantage of preferential bar prices whenever it is open, hire the function room at the members' reduced rate, and bring up to 3 guests with you at any one time, including to selected club functions throughout the year (but see note below on Guests).

Parents whose children row with the junior squad may take advantage of a discounted rate if taking out this membership for themselves.

Cox/Coach

This has the same benefits as Associate membership, for those interested in coxing, coaching, or driving safety boats.

Land Rower Membership
This has the same benefits as Associate membership plus use of the weights and ergo room.

Senior Rowing Membership
This has the same benefits as Land Rower membership plus the use of the boathouse and club boats, and voting rights at the AGM.
Full-time students and under 25 year olds qualify for a discounted rate under this membership category (proof of student status/age is required).

Junior Rowing Membership
This has the same benefits as Senior membership, but no voting rights at the AGM.  Parents of junior members, who are not members themselves, are welcome to use the clubroom and bar areas if opting to wait while their child's training session takes place.

Family Membership

Discounted membership is available for family members all living at the same address.

Temporary Membership
Temporary Membership applies for periods of up to 2 weeks: the form found here must be completed and signed before rowing.

Guests
Guests from the UK and overseas are very welcome at the club, but should be signed in by a club member on arrival unless attending a specific function. A member may sign in a maximum of 3 guests at any one time, and the same guest may be signed in up to 8 times per calendar year. Guests who wish to use the boating facilities must first obtain permission from the membership secretary.

What Next?

For anyone considering becoming a member, there is an open invitation to come and have a tour of the facilities and chat to one of the committee members about rowing at Maidenhead. The best times to come down are Tuesday and Thursday evenings after 8pm, or Saturday and Sunday mornings after 10am, or alternatively, contact the club captain to arrange a specific date and time. See contacts pagefor details.

Experienced rowers looking to join a squad will be introduced to the relevant squad captain or coach.

If you have never rowed before then the Learn to Row course is compulsory on the grounds of safety. Visit the Learn2Row page for further details.

All new members are required to complete a membership application form, which may be downloaded here, or collected from the leaflet dispenser in the club entrance.

We believe everyone should have the opportunity to row if they want to so, should you find that you are unable to afford membership due to your economic circumstances, you can apply to the committee for support. Each case is considered on its merits.

Membership costs can be found here.

Maidenhead Rowing Club has a "pay before you row/ergo" policy and new members must pay their membership fees before using any of the club equipment.

The membership year runs from June to May.

New members joining part way through the year will be due to pay the appropriate portion of the annual fee as shown in the table below.  The fees shown against June are the full annual fee for that membership category, with the remaining months calculated as shown.
