The Women Masters squad at Maidenhead Rowing Club (MRC) has approximately 15 active members with a range of experience and commitment.
Some of the squad rowed as juniors, coming back after a long gap, and some learned to row later in life, joining the squad to row competitively.
The squad is not for recreational rowers. It is a competitive squad therefore, as with the Masters squad, not suitable for complete beginners but with over half the squad being novices the squad has a culture of support and nurture for those who want to gain race experience.
There is good age range across the squad with some members in the 30s and ladies in their 60s. The majority of the rowers being in their 40s and 50s.
Whilst the squad race all year round, in all boat types from 1x to 8+, the winter weather can sometimes see the squad leave the water. If this happens land-based training takes over to keep everyone fit!
Regular squad water training sessions are on Tuesday evenings, Saturday and Sunday mornings plus more informal sessions on Thursday evenings during summer months. During winter the Tuesday evening sessions are often land-based.
Life is busy and the Women Masters squad can be flexible with its members so will accommodate work and family commitments for new members looking to join.
