Junior membership fees (2020/21) are due on 1 November, following approval at the EGM last week. Our membership secretaries (Julia, Claire and Becca) and Jim have kindly set up the membership types in ClubHub today, so it is ready to go.

You will also have seen that we are inviting applications (by 30 October) from appropriately qualified candidates for the part-time Junior Rowing Co-ordinator.

Some more racing news this week: alumnus Victor Kleshnev is contesting the 179th Wingfield Sculls on 29 October. Smash it Victor! Read more about this historic private race: https://juniorrowingnews.com/wingfields/. Rowing history enthusiasts might be interested to know that ‘Beechy’ (now Diane’s, previously Owen’s, 1x) won the Wingfield Sculls in 1957 with Graham Beech. Maidenhead RC’s Bert Bushnell won the event in 1947.

In time for Christmas lists, Paul Lion’s gargantuan history of Maidenhead Rowing Club, “It’s a load of rowlocks”, is now available for order (see Laura’s email earlier today for details). Paul has very generously donated 25% of profits to the club. Thank you, Paul.

Thanks to: Jim Oliver and Diane for fixing non-slip strips onto the slope to the downstream pontoon last week; Caroline, Chris, and Diane for running capsize drills for several BUBC members yesterday; and to Stewart for persuading RBWM council to clear the remainder of the submerged branches on Guard’s Club Island.

We suffered a theft from the boathouse one evening last week; a member’s phone and bike were stolen whilst he was out on the river. CCTV footage has been provided to the Police. We advise keeping your valuables with you on the river (using a waterproof pouch), but if you choose to use the locker boxes please clean the locks and doors before and after use (C19 cleaning protocols).

Please reacquaint yourselves with Club safety rules for night-time/low-light and river status board settings, as Autumn is fully upon us.

Stay safe

Nick
